Jane, Lucy and the RSG Team x

This month we’ve teamed up with The Cotswold Distillery to offer you a super exciting prize. Founded in 2014, The Cotswold Distillery have been busily producing award-winning spirits and liqueurs at their beautiful site in Stourton in the North Cotswolds since the very beginning. The distillery is a hive of activity; making Cotswolds Dry Gin and the Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky – the first whisky ever distilled in the region, and made entirely from locally grown barley.

The distillery also produces a range of small-batch spirits and liqueurs – from firm favourites like the Espresso Martini (an RSG favourite) and Cotswolds Cream Liqueur, to seasonal surprises like the Clementine and Sage Gin. The distillery offers visitors guided tours around the distillery’s production areas and warehouse, giving visitors an up-close account of how they craft their gin and whisky, ending with a sampling of the full range in the cosy tasting room at the end of the tour.

Not only will the competition winner receive a tasting tour and overnight stay for themselves and a friend at the Ebrington Arms, but they will also be presented with a hamper of Cotswolds Distillery products after their tour, including a bottle of Cotswolds Dry Gin, two Copa glasses, and a 50ml spirit measure. Please note, the distillery tours book up really quickly so it’s advisable to check availability provisionally with both Cotswolds Distillery and the Ebrington Arms before booking.

Back in our January Hot List, co-founder Jane Rockett’s new year resolution was to reduce her plastic bag consumption and so she invested in some handy and stylish shoppers to take to the supermarket with her. This got us thinking about what we can do to reduce our plastic waste to help mother earth out!

It’s easy to feel a little overwhelmed when it comes to reducing our plastic consumption, but what we’ve come to realise is how easy and achievable it is to reduce your plastic consumption and the good news is also that the UK has and the EU has pledged to ban all nonrecyclable plastic by 2030 – so positive changes are being made!

So here are five simple swaps that will make all the difference:

  1. Say no to plastic/ clingfilm wrapped fruit, veggies and meat. You can easily source netted bags online (try Amazon) for your fruits and veg or alternatively sign up for a weekly fruit and veg delivery which comes loosely packed in a box! If you visit the meat counter in your local supermarket you can ask for non-plastic wrap. Another easy alternative is to support local businesses and visit food markets or local greengrocers for a sustainable alternative.
  2. Paper Straws. No need to end the party early, just invest in paper straws for your cocktails. We have a selection of glamorous paper straws at RSG and we’ve also heard that some companies are developing edible straws that we can’t wait to try!
  3. Swap your single-use plastic bottles for a reusable bottle. Not only are these bottles better for the environment, but they are also BPA free which is better for your health! A WIN :  WIN in our opinion!
  4. Cardboard trumps plastic. Cardboard is so much easier to recycle than plastic, so if there is a cardboard alternative on a particular food item that you wish to buy, opt for that instead. We’ve heard of this super cool company, Boxed Water Is Better, that offers boxed water instead of plastic bottles. Check it out here.
  5. Ditch the disposable – disposable coffee cups, disposable razors, disposable cutlery – the list goes on! If you can avoid purchasing single-use pieces and invest in reusable alternatives, you’ll make a big difference to your plastic consumption, plus its cheaper in the long run.

Festival season well and truly kicks off in May, so to mark the start of it we have curated a Festival Fun Playlist on Spotify to get you in the mood…
