So to help you invest in pieces that will last a lifetime, we’ve listed our top 5 timeless pieces that every home should have…
TIMELESS PIECE NO.1: A STANDOUT SOFA

The ultimate grown-up piece every 30+ something should invest in is a statement sofa. In our opinion, a great sofa is an absolute must and that’s why it’s number 1 on our list. A sofa is likely to stay with you for many years to come so it’s really key to get it right because it can not only end up taking up a lot of your time if you get your choice wrong but it can also turn into a very expensive mistake!
When it comes to sofas there is a lot of choices out there from different shapes, sizes, colours, materials, era… the list goes on! So here are 4 important things to consider when sourcing your very own standout sofa:
- Your Sitting Style. Ask yourself how you like to lounge on your sofa? Comfort is an obvious must and without it, you are likely to fall out of love with your sofa very, very quickly. So if you prefer to lie on your sofa than sit, then a corner sofa would be a great choice for you or alternatively, if you like to sip a cocktail or glass of wine on your sofa (who doesn’t?!) then an art deco style sofa is for you!
- Measure Up, baby! Something that you simply cannot get away with is not measuring your space, so measure your room once and then again to be absolutely sure that you’ve got it right. Also, don’t forget to measure the doorways and hallways that lead to your living room to make sure you can get the sofa of your dreams in!
- Make it pop! We love a colour pop and nothing pops as much as a colourful sofa! Be it a gorgeous nude pink, deep and luxurious green or a bright and welcoming mustard sofa, it will instantly grab your attention when you walk into the room. If you prefer darker colours that’s okay too! A black, dark blue or grey sofa not only oozes sophistication but tend to be more hard wearing and so can survive the wear and tear of day-to-day family living.
- Get your fabric right. Do you like to sit back in luxury velvets? Or put your feet up on herringbone tweed? Or lie back on gorgeous leather? Whatever your preference, keep it at the forefront of your mind when searching for your statement sofa.
TIMELESS PIECE NO.2: SOMETHING VINTAGE (OR VINTAGE STYLE!)

If you are going to invest in one piece for the home… let it be vintage! The beauty of vintage and antique pieces is that they suit all décor styles – even contemporary looks! So if you have the time, it really is worth sourcing vintage furniture and antiques that you love because they’ll stand the test of time.
We know that finding a vintage treasure could mean trailing flea markets and antique shops which is a LOT of fun and we definitely recommend that you try it, but it can be hard and it does take a long time to source that special something that WOWs. So don’t be afraid to go for vintage-style furniture, lighting or home accessories they look really spectacular and are often half the price tag!
Don’t be afraid of mixing vintage styles with modern, contemporary styles – we promise it won’t create a conflicting look. In fact, vintage pieces can add layers of interest and focal points to your home interiors.
TIMELESS PIECE NO.3: ARTWORK

Giant artwork, beautiful photographic prints, postcards, photos of your family, canvas prints … artwork is a household must. Art is a form of expression and will transform your home interiors into a home that is uniquely personal to your likes and style.
Our key advice for sourcing beautiful art is to look for that stop-you-in-your-tracks piece. The kind of art print or photography that brings you into the moment to stop and consider the art. Throughout our lives, we’ve all scrolled across an art piece on Instagram or viewed artwork at a gallery or in somebody’s home that has this effect, so when you are searching for a timeless art piece that will last a lifetime make sure you consider how that art print makes you feel.
It’s too easy to see art as something to consider last when decorating your home. As though it is a home accessory or afterthought… don’t fall into that trap! Great art should be near the top of your list, it has such a transformative effect on your interiors, that’s why we love to pick pieces that never fail to make us smile.
TIMELESS PIECE NO.4: BEDSIDE TABLES
Main Image: Eiffel Black & Gold Bedside Table £150.00 | Bottom Left: Halcyon Bedside Table With Drawer £140.00 | Bottom Right: Rivington Bedside Table £75.00
According to Feng shui having a bed that is accessible from both sides and has two bedside tables creates balance and harmony in the bedroom. In our twenties, it was very cost-effective to opt for simple or mismatched bedside tables from a local charity shop or flea market, but as time goes on you’ll want to spend more time curating your home to suit your individual style.
So in our opinion, a beautiful set of bedside or side tables is a timeless piece that every home should have. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing and so, therefore, an interior design must, but it also helps to create a specific look in the home -e.g. modern luxe, maximalism, scandi or industrial. Co-founders, Jane and Lucy, recommend in their book, Extraordinary Interiors, to write down how you want a room to make you feel, what your personal style is and what makes you happy when planning the decor for a room. So take some time on a lazy Sunday and create a mood board of your favourite looks and once you have your decor style firmly in mind then it’s time for the fun part… treasure hunting for your bedside tables!
Psst… Keep an eye out for the RSG Own-Design Bedside Table Collection. Landing on the RSG Website in a few months time!
TIMELESS PIECE NO.5: STATEMENT FURNITURE
Main Image: The Beautiful Brass & Glass Swan Table landing at Rockett St George very, very soon! | Bottom Left: Faces Brass Side Table / Stool £195.00 | Bottom Right: Cloud Velvet Chair – Golden Glow £650.00
Now we know this last option is a bit non-descript but that’s because a statement piece can be just about anything! Be it a statement armchair, coffee table, mirror or drinks trolley, there is room to play here and really go for something that sings out to you everytime that you walk into the room.
For us at Rockett St George, this is normally a quirky piece that makes us smile or even laugh, but it can also be a furniture that is sculptured with animal motifs such as a Swan Coffee Table or a luxury statement chair upholstered in soft velvet…. after all, nothing makes a statement quite like an extraordinarily unusual piece. We have found that when it comes to sourcing timeless statement furniture its best to do your research and only purchase that piece stops you dead in your tracks…it’s that have-to-have-it piece that is likely to stand the test of time.
