We recently came across the Hollywood actress Hilary Swank’s Parisian Home in Architectural Digest and OH WOW! Refined, sophisticated and simply divine the talented actresses apartment is a design triumph.
Based on the Left Bank, the Haussman-style loft is a stunning combination of traditional Hausmann features with a modern contemporary decor. Interestingly, Hilary teamed up with Axel Huynh, who was originally contracted to design a piece of furniture for the apartment, but the pair ended up designing the entire apartment together with great success! Because there is really nothing better than having a good old nose around someone’s home, we decided to take a deeper look at Hilary Swank’s home and create a bonus mood board so that you can get the look!
The gorgeous, large dual-aspect living space in Hilary’s home is captivating, with large ceiling to floor sapphire blue curtains draping from the windows and beautifully flowing against the airy, white walls and large day beds. Central to the room is a decadent fireplace made from speckled marble, which is picked out by the rich colours of the deep parquet, wooden floors and warming burnt orange rug. The giant artworks each tell a story and provide the room with a feature piece. This is a clever mix of old and new giving the room a unique and eclectic feel.
RSG Top Tip: If you want to get the look in your home, then opt for a colour such as sapphire blue or emerald green and incorporate it into different furnishings and materials throughout the room. It creates an equilibrium that connects everything together.

Contemporary side tables and floor lights are positioned throughout the large living space including an enviable malachite stone sculpture, a marble top desk and an array of unique custom side tables.
With a feature wall painted in a gorgeous ocean green, the dining room is surprisingly minimalist for such a bold choice of colour. This only adds to the grandeur of the room and the eye is drawn to the large, black dining table and chairs with playful blue legs (we wonder how many famous bottoms have sat on those seats?!). What is so spectacular about the genius design is that you are constantly reminded of the building’s traditional architecture. The large windows opening onto a wrought iron balcony with cut stonework is typical of a Haussmann Style building and allows generous light to spill into the room. The cornices are painted in a crisp white which harmonises the aesthetic of the space.
RSG Top Tip: We prefer to steer clear of feature walls … instead be brave and paint the whole room in a colour of your choice. The result is breathtaking and if you don’t like it you can always paint over it!

The perfect Style Spot. This sumptuous red velvet sofa electrifies this corner! Stylishly decorated with plush purple and geometric cushions and combined with striking photography, delicate gold side table and a dark grey marble fireplace – this space exudes contemporary style.
RSG Top Tip: Hilary has filled her apartment with bespoke, refined furniture such as her sapphire blue day beds and the soft red velvet sofa. To get the look invest in a gorgeous sofa, gallery chair or day bed in a sumptuous and eye-catching colour. Choosing a chair in a luxurious deep colour such as ocean green, blue, golden glows or red will demand the eye and inject elegance and character into the room.
In cool and calming whites and soft silver greys, the bedroom and bathroom in the Parisian apartment are sophisticated and calming. Interestingly, Hilary has created a peaceful space in these two rooms, perhaps to remind herself of the rooms primary purposes: to sleep and relax. Whilst this may be true, we love that she dressed the bed in a number of colourful cushions and that the gorgeous herringbone floors still feature in the bedroom. This look can be easily created in many different homes, especially rented ones where you may be required to keep the walls white. If you’re on a budget, be creative and always try and work with what you’ve got.
RSG Top Tip: To create your very own cool and calm bedroom, opt for softer hues such as crisp whites and silver greys. These colours have a calming effect and when combined with a minimalist decor can do wonders for those who find it hard to switch off when they should be getting some zzz.
