With Fashion week heading to London next week, it got us thinking about how you can incorporate some of 2017’s hottest looks into the home! Most look to the catwalk for fashion trends and what to wear, but we think a lot can be learned from keeping an eye on what the models wear and incorporating it into your interiors. Fashion is all about pushing limits and taking artistic risks and for the hardcore interiors lover this is exactly what we love! In fact, Daniela Tasca York, the winner of The Great Interior Design Challenge started her careers working for the fashion giants Matches and Burberry and it has widely influenced her career in interior design.
So without further ado, we have come up with inspiration taken directly from the catwalk…
This year, the top five trends you are likely to see a lot of is:
- Global / Retro Blends
- Seaside Summers
- Glittery Metallics
- Gothic Utopia
- Floral Prints
Retro, global designs will appear frequently in Spring Summer 17 and this trend is really hot in interiors right now. What’s so great about Retro and global designs is that you can implement this trend subtly or boldly into your home. If you want to go big opt for retro furniture and striking bold pattern wallpaper that demands the eye. If subtlety is more your thing go for intrinsically detailed pieces such as a new gourd or etched salad servers.
This year is all about the seaside stripes and bringing a little ocean to the home. To transfer the look from the catwalk to your home opt for simple stripes on duvet sets, tea cups, vases and then display shells that you have collected from the seaside or a hanging sea shell for a more eye-catching display.
Glittery metallics can be seen everywhere from the New York Catwalks to the RSG head office! The emphasis on glittery metallic garments got us thinking about statement pieces that are a little shimmery and bright! To incorporate an individual and unique flair to the home opt for metallics, deep golds, and glittery accessories to add a little personality to the room without breaking the bank!
Practically the Rockett St George uniform we are obviously delighted that the black on black trend is here to stay in Autumn Winter 2017. To inject some serious cool into the home think dark, moody and oh so seductive interiors. Dark walls are a must to achieve a gothic utopia in your home, but if you’re looking for something that’s not as permanent go for gothic bird feet candlesticks and low wattage lighting to create a little mid-century excitement!
Last, but certainly not least is the bohemian floral trend guaranteed to be a Spring Summer 17 favourite! With Greenery being Pantone’s Colour of 2017 a floral trend really is about refreshing and revamping your wardrobe with spring colours. To add a little bohemian maximalism to the home think floral arrangements in retro vases or leaf print wallpapers. If keeping flowers and plants alive is not your strong suit, then go for Faux plants … no maintenance and yet just as impactful!
