Last week our very own RSG co-founders Jane Rockett and Lucy St George headed up to Liberty London for an ‘In Conversation With…’ evening hosted by the fabulous interiors journalist; Claudia Baillie. Previously Features Editor at Livingetc, Acting Features Editor at Homes & Gardens and Interiors Editor at Sunday Times Style – there is nothing Claudia doesn’t know about interior trends, styling and shopping! The evening was intimate and informal with a guest list of thirty interesting people, ranging from designer makers, interior designers and entrepreneurs. No topic was off limits with questions ranging from how Rockett St George started, our new concession at Liberty as well as photography and business tips. This was an event not to be missed!
But for those of you who did miss out, here is a little behind the scenes sneak preview…
Set up within the iconic walls of Liberty, our event took place in the Heritage Suite – a room we never knew existed! Beautiful wood-paneled walls and a stunning carved stone fireplace set the stage for a fabulous evening ahead. This room had once been the office of Arthur Liberty, so we were extremely honoured to host our evening here. Out came a selection of the latest RSG arrivals to dress the room, including our new Faux Cowhide Vintage Style Armchairs, Hot Lips Silk Cushion and the fantastic Duck Feet Lamp. Thirty goodie bags were filled with RSG treats, champagne bottles were popped and the scene was set!
Once the room was filled with guests riffling through their goodie bags the conversation began. Claudia began with a light and chatty introduction about her work and her love of Rockett St George. With a glass of bubbly in hand, Jane & Lucy chatted away about how they met, how RSG started and their favourite boot sales in and around London! The chat was lively, informative and enjoyable and Jane and Lucy answered a lot of great questions.
Claudia: How did the Liberty pop-up come about? It must be a thrill to have your product in such an iconic store?!
Lucy: Well we received an email from Liberty earlier this year asking us if we were interested in a concession at Liberty. Of course, the answer was ‘YES’! We are so thrilled to be here, Liberty has always been hugely inspirational to us and to actually be a part of such an iconic store is just amazing.
Claudia: Which pieces do you have in your homes that you really love and wouldn’t be without?
Jane: My Morrocan Wedding Blanket. I recently hung one on the back of my bed and it has just transformed the room. It’s great for revamping old furniture!
The goodie bags and the brains behind the business: Lucy St George and Jane Rockett. RSG products featured: Black Metal Antler Candlestick, Duck Feet Table Lamp, Wheatsheaf Table With Bevelled Glass Top and the Faux Cowhide Vintage Style 2 Seater Sofa.
After the conversation was over the floor was open to questions – always a terrifying moment – but our lovely audience asked a range of fantastic questions!
How do you think Rockett St George developed a brand?
Jane: “The black website! Everyone told us that a black website was the worst thing that we could do. But we tried so many different colours and nothing quite worked. It was risky, but we are so glad that we stuck with black, it’s become our brand.”
What’s next for Rockett St George?
…The answer to this is exclusive to our audience, but we’ve got a few exciting announcements, events and even a new pop-up coming soon… So watch this space!
Our lasting thoughts… The ‘In Conversation With…’ event was a fantastic, fun-filled and informative evening.
