events-in-october

With so many creative events happening this month we have decided to choose our top 5 recommendations to make it a little easier to digest. If craft and design isn’t your thing, don’t forget it’s also the BFI London Film Festival this month (5-16 October) so grab yourself a guide and get yourself to one of the many exciting screenings happening across London.

  1. Midcentury East – Haggerston School. If like us you are a big fan of mid-century modern furniture and design then we’d definitely recommend you head along to Haggerston School where modern furniture dealers will be gathering. The space designed by architect Erno Goldfinger is worth a look in itself. 9th October, www.modernshows.com
  2. Made London – One Marylebone. One of our favourite annual craft events where you will not come home empty handed or disappointed. Pick up something unique and feel inspired by all the works of art on display. 20th-23rd October, www.madelondon.org
  3. Teenage Bedrooms: ‘Like a House Inside a House’ – Geffrye Museum. This event made us laugh at first – the thoughts of exploring our own teenagers bedrooms is quite frightening… But this is all about viewing them from a different perspective. The exhibition explores the identity, memories and expression of our teens, at such an important time in thier delevopment. 4th October, www.geffrye-museum.org
  4. Handmade at Kew – Royal Botanical Gardens. We never miss a chance to visit Kew Gardens and this event sees over 200 designers and makers come together for an allmighty display of their works. Furniture, textiles and ceramics. 6th-9th October, www.handmadebritain.co.uk
  5. Handmade in Edinburgh – The Hub. If you fancy a short trip away then we can strongly recommend Edinburgh! Aside from plenty of other things to see and do, on the 28th-30th the handmade event travels to The Hub for a different selection of makers. 28th-30th October, www.handmadebritain.co.uk

shop-lina-stores

This bright little store is one of the only old-school shops left in Soho. It’s been resident in the area for over 70 years and is a firm favourite with the locals. The deli contains the most mouthwatering food, authentic Italian coffee and so much more. It is the place to go if you want to create a little piece of Italy in your kitchen. The little deli is stacked from floor to ceiling with regional Italian products and the deli olives, meats and cheeses are always a massive hit, we really could go on…

Whilst this fantastic little deli really is worth a visit, for those of us who are strapped for time or live far away you can still get your Italian cuisine fix by shopping on their online store, and they deliver nationwide! Once you shop you won’t be able to stop!

drink-rum

New kid on the block, Burlock Rum Rooms, is the hottest new place to drink. Located in swanky Mayfair the bar stocks an impressive 200+ rums making it one of the largest Rum Houses in the country and a great date-night location / cool hang-out.

A hilarious drinks menu always wins us over – try ‘Mary’s Pickled’ (and you will be!) with Bacardi Heritage, Maraschino, Pineapple Shrub, Clementine Juice and Pomegranate – YUM! The Hurricane #1 and A-Give-Us-A-Cole both sound delicious too, and if you’re feeling really adventurous / brave – why not go for the Grasshoppers Delux? Yes, that’s right… an actual grasshopper! If you wash it down with a shot of rum you get the special treat of ringing the the champions bar-shop bell – a challenge we recommend you try after a few drinks…!

party-oktoberfest-east

Munich’s world famous beer festival is coming to London… Exciting!

Live music, food stalls, marquees and of course German beer – What’s not to love?! Don’t be surprised if you see a few dirndl and lederhosen either! For two weeks there will be an array of venues to choose from, but our pick would be Oktoberfest East which is a little twist on the traditional. Enjoy great music, beer and traditional Bavarian style food on tap.
