OUTSIDE SHOPPING GUIDE
When you have to tear yourself away from our lovely website (sigh) and shop OUTSIDE (horror). You’re probably going to need comfy shoes, consume about ten Santa-themed latte’s and wear earmuffs to protect you from
the cold Christmas songs.
We’ve come across a few genius techniques to make it through the madness that is Christmas shopping.
If you are shopping in London, it is crucial to your survival that you take a break in Liberty’s and indulge in a Margaret Dabbs Sole Spa. You may laugh now, but when those cold toes start thawing you’ll be thanking us!
If you fancy escaping for bite to eat, try out Dinerama‘s completely winter-proofed street food space in Shoreditch. Hot cocktails and delicious food in a great atmoshere? Perfect. You can also browse the streets of Shoreditch for more unique finds than on the highstreet.
20 THINGS YOU NEED THIS CHRISTMAS
There’s so much going on this time of year, and it would be a shame to miss out on the best bits amidst the rush. Here’s a little reminder to focus on the smaller things, too…
Christmas films are obviously a staple. Get cosy with blankets, hot drinks and snacks for the silly, sad and sensational films that are on this your TV’s this season.
To accompany your film fest: hot chocolate with cinnamon and orange liqueur. We came across this gorgeous concoction on the Call Me Cupcake food blog.
Of course the tree will be glittering with lights and baubles, but don’t leave out the rest of your home! Our Tassel Garland and Honeycomb Decorations will add the finishing touches to your gorgeous grotto…
Boxing day pyjamas are a must. Stock up on a new pair to slip into when dealing with the inevitable post-Christmas booze lull… Make sure they’re super soft – you’ll be in them all day! We’re loving the men’s and women’s collections in Calvin Klein this year. (Psst, a great gift idea!)
Buy a Christmas wreath for your door and add your own special touch to it. We’ve added Eucalyptus leaves to our frosted Hazel Wreath for a contemporary winter look.
If you’re hosting a dinner party, then organising a Secret Santa is a source of entertainment in itself. We’ve got a bunch of quirky gifts perfect for such an occasion.
If you have little ones, get the craft box out and set them to work creating home-made thank you cards for their presents. Our rubber Christmas Stamps would be perfect for you!
Take a trip to the Brighton Pavilion where a beautiful ice rink has been unveiled. Lit up in pinks, purples and gold, the pavilion has never looked more romantic! Whether you’re a skater or not, it’s worth a stop for the rinkside Bar & Kitchen.
If you’re the one cooking, write up a schedule so you know what to put in/take out and when. This will give you more time to socialise… (With your friend, Vino). We’ve got our eye on Jamie Oliver’s Mulled Wine Recipe.
Don’t let the marathon that is Christmas dinner overtake the importance of tableware. Why not try our Black Cotton Napkins and embellish with some natural, seasonal decorations. We love these DIY rosemary and cinnamon napkin rings.
If you fancy a family day out in the Christmas period, London really is your friend this year. Visit Notting Hill’s 20th century Cinema for a pop-up Christmassy experience. They’ll be showing a range of classic and new festive films.
Dinner is not complete without a round of Christmas Crackers. We’ve got a whole bunch over on the site, but are currently loving the Neon Fringe Crackers for a bright, glittering table display.
Christmas may feel like it’s all about the new, but it is as much about the old, too. We’ve combined both to bring you some vintage-look bar accessories to help make your Christmas a day to remember. (Or forget, depending on how much you utilise the bar!)
Candles. Always more candles. Our Snow Doll Candles are an office favourite. Christmas is full of magic and wonder, and these candles remind us of those all-important christmas eves spent wishing and waiting…get excited!
Cheesy Christmas jumpers are a must. We encourage colour, pom poms, sequins, slogans and – naturally – light up led’s. Although, if you want something a little more understated, Urban Outfitters have a lovely range of Fair Isle, Reindeer print and Fisherman’s knits to keep you in the Christmas spirit.
Tree decorating is very similar to eating Christmas Dinner…there is always room for more. Squeeze in another bauble here and there for maximum glitz and glamour on the big day (you know you want to).
Any excuse for a smooch. We’ve found a lovely little mistletoe posy tutorial to try out at home. We’d suggest tying with a a black or gold ribbon instead for a deluxe twist.
Of course, an RSG Hot List would not be complete without a fabulous themed playlist…
We’ve gone for a relaxed, hazy winter days feel whilst throwing some much needed Christmas cheese in the mix. I mean, what’s Christmas without Wham?
